Net Profit

Bay fishing in the South, the Watermen working by hand pulling the nets. This painting "Net Gains" is depicting the hard business of fishing with hopes that the net brings gains with a bounty of fish. The fishermen are so realistic that one can almost see them move. The highly detailed figures and inticate detail in the netting is accomplished with the illuminist technique, using thin layers of oil paint. This is one of the paintings in Léger's Working Water Series. Léger does not reproduce her work in prints, however, a full color book is available for this series and can be found on a custom page on this website with a link for purchase.
