Net Gain

This painting "Net Gain" is one of the paintings in Légers Working Water Series. This one shows our young fisherman negotiating this complicated net for a day of fishing. The intense detail of the net weave and floats is accomplished with the illuminist technique of thin layers of oils and a skillful brush with years of experience. This fisherman in sharp focus realism works from on shore to high seas in his chosen lifestyle as a waterman. The string of bright white floats are mesmerising and hypnotic and leads the eye to the face and action of this fisherman in his daily task. Léger does not reproduce her work in prints, however she has designed a full color catalog of this series and it is available on this websites custom page with a link for purchase.
